Our Story

We started our journey like most other couples, as friends... That friendship blossomed into the relationship it is today! Please continue reading to hear how it all began!

  • First Meeting

    Fall 2018

We met at our freshman dorm at UNC. Despite living in the same building, we only shared minimal interactions for a year—just a few hellos and goodbyes here and there. But both of us secretly thought, 'It would be nice to know more about that person!'

Location: Granville Towers, Chapel Hill, NC

  • Becoming Friends

    April 2019

We met again through mutual friends at a college social mixer. Rahul tried a few times to strike up a conversation, even cracking some cringy jokes. As summer drew near, we started texting more often, slowly building a connection.

Location: Main Campus, Chapel Hill, NC

  • Rahul Asked Nishita Out

    August 4th, 2019

One night, we started texting at length, and Rahul thought, 'This could be something.' So, he asked Nishita out over text. We decided to meet in person for the first time when school resumed in a few weeks.

Location: Virtually... Yes, I asked over text!

  • "The First Date"

    August 19th, 2019

This was our first real date, and it was a wonderful evening. We went to a nice Italian restaurant for dinner and later went for a walk. Rahul spent most of the night talking non-stop, while Nishita listened with a smile. It was the beginning of something special.

Location: 411 Italian Restaurant, Chapel Hill, NC (Rahul hates Italian food—why did he agree to go here?)

  • First Garba

    October 2019

By this point, we were still getting to know each other, but we both realized this relationship was something special. Attending our first Garba together made it even more memorable.

Location: Rams Head Gym, Chapel Hill, NC

  • "Spring Break"

    March 2020

This spring break coincided with the start of COVID-19. While we left for break, we never returned to campus as the world went into lockdown. Our college experience seemed to end abruptly. Despite the uncertainty, we stayed connected through daily texts and FaceTime calls.

    Location: Chapel Hill, NC

  • The Summer of COVID

    May - August 2020

Naturally, we couldn’t meet often during the pandemic. However, we made sure to visit each other once every two months. With Rahul in Cary and Nishita in Charlotte, it was a manageable two-hour drive. This summer was also when we met each other's parents for the first time.

    Location: Charlotte & Cary, NC

  • Back to School!

    August 2020

Who would’ve thought we’d be excited to return to school? After months in lockdown, we were thrilled. But it was short-lived—COVID-19 cases surged again, and within a month, classes became virtual, sending us back home.

    Location: Chapel Hill, NC

  • Romeo!

    December 2020

Romeo was adopted! Rahul didn’t know how to take care of a dog at the time, but Romeo quickly grew on him. Rahul met him during Nishita’s birthday celebration. In a way, Romeo became our first child, and we’ve both cared for him ever since.

    Location: Charlotte, NC

  • Back to School, Pt 2

    January - May 2021

We finally had in-person classes again, though many were still virtual. After nearly a year apart, we were able to meet regularly again and make up for lost time.

    Location: Chapel Hill, NC

  • Summer After COVID

    July - August 2021

We both returned home and focused on internships we had secured during the school year. Despite the busy schedules, we managed to meet occasionally, including a memorable trip to the Asheboro Zoo.

    Location: Charlotte & Cary, NC

  • Senior Year

    August 2021

Before we knew it, senior year was here, and we had just one year left in college. Time had truly flown by! Thankfully, this year was free of COVID distractions. UNC even made it to the NCAA finals—although they lost. Rahul secured a job in DC after graduation, while Nishita began her job search.

    Location: Chapel Hill, NC

  • Graduation

    May 2022

And just like that, our senior year was over. We graduated together and prepared to move to Northern Virginia, near Washington D.C. We were excited to start this new chapter of life in the same city.

    Location: Chapel Hill, NC

  • Work, Work, and More Work...

    July 2022 - May 2024

After moving, we both focused on our careers while continuing to nurture our relationship. Although work kept us busy, we still made time for each other.

Location: Northern Virginia - Washington D.C.

  • A Call with Nishita's Dad

    May 2024

I decided I was ready for the commitment of marriage. To take the first step, I called Nishita’s dad to ask for his blessing. Uncle was kind as always, but he made sure Aunty was okay with it too. I’m incredibly grateful to have received their blessings.

Location: A phone call... Yes, I really should’ve done this in person.

  • Ring Shopping

    June - July 2024

Nishita wanted a unique ring, and I wanted to find something that would make her truly happy. While she went on a vacation with her family, I went ring shopping. After some searching, I found the perfect ring: a gold oval diamond with two pear-cut diamonds on the sides.

    Location: Northern Virginia

  • The Proposal

    August 2nd, 2024

We celebrated our five-year anniversary with a trip to Iceland. Nishita probably expected a proposal on the 4th, but I wanted to surprise her. On the day we landed, after a hectic day of sightseeing and a quick nail fix, we drove two hours to Black Sand Beach. With the help of her sister and a friend, I proposed on the beach. She said yes!

Location: Black Sand Beach, Vik, Iceland

With that we are present day! Our wedding planning is underway and this site will have more information about our journey as these events draw closer!
